Following Saturday afternoon's pre-season draw with Aston Villa, Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the local press and discussed the relationship between the Saddlers and Villains, along with revealing that he looked to sign Callum Robinson, who scored Villa's goal on Saturday afternoon, but was unsuccessful at the time.
Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Smith said; "Callum went out last year. I put a few phone calls into Paul Lambert last season about Callum Robinson but unfortunately he went to Preston.
"We know that there are players out there and games like this – the way we try and play – can only strengthen the relationship.
"I know from Tim's background at Tottenham Hotspur his philosophy is to bring young players through as well. So I'm sure he'll see the way we play and will know that players can come here and do well."
