Northern Premier League Division One South side Gresley have taken a step closer to securing Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts on loan as both sides are understood to have come to a verbal agreement on the deal.

Reports in the Burton Mail suggest an agreement has been reached between the Saddlers and Gresley vice-chairman Keith Milner.

Speaking to the Burton Mail, Milner said; "Neil Cutler has said that (Walsall) get back into training on July 1.

"At that point, he'll speak to Walsall's physio and assess Liam's fitness. When he's fit and available, he will be allowed to come to Gresley on loan.

"It's just a matter of his fitness levels after the injury. I don't think he'll be available for the Burton friendly (on July 1) but he should be able to come in at some stage.

"We've just got to wait for Walsall to assess his fitness. Even if he can't do some of the work he'll have Neil working with him and the other keepers there at Walsall.

"I have been on the phone to Walsall since their keeper was sold and I was told that would have no effect (on Roberts coming to Gresley)."
