Former Walsall, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Southend United defender Julian Bennett has today taken to Twitter to announce his retirement due to a longstanding knee injury.
Former Walsall, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Southend United defender Julian Bennett has today taken to Twitter to announce his retirement due to a longstanding knee injury.

The 30-year-old, Nottingham-born right-back suffered the injury on his Southend debut against Yeovil in August 2013 and has not played since.

Speaking via Twitter, Julian said; "Since August 6th 2013 I have been battling injury I finally accept I have lost this tackle.

"Tonight I announce publicly my retirement from professional football with sadness mixed with immense pride.

"From the bottom of my heart I thank my family, friends, staff, fans and all the good people I have met."

Julian made a total of 215 appearances in his career, scoring 15 goals.
