PAPER TALK: Wacka Praises Excellent O'Donnell

Walsall Football Club record appearance holder Jimmy Walker has spoken to the local press about the current contract negotiations between the club and Richard O'Donnell, and has also praised O'D for his excellent progression whilst at the club.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Wacka said; "It will be a shame if O'Donnell goes. I've watched a few Walsall games this season and he's been excellent.

"His progression has been excellent. He's been playing at a very high level, made some great saves, and I think he will be a massive loss to be honest.

"Good goalies are hard to find. Sometimes you need a bit of luck and I think that happened with Richard – he came in at a good time for him and the club. It could have gone either way but fortunately it went very well.

"I don't know the ins and outs so I might be speaking out of turn and being a little harsh on the club but you would like to think they would have tied it up before the end of the season because they could tell he was a good goalie.

"When he was doing very well up until Christmas, you thought they would have been doing everything they can around that time to cut down his options in the summer.

"Because if he had another half-a-season like he had done – which is what happened – people are crying out for good goalkeepers.

"He certainly fits into that category and on a free, for some clubs it will be an absolute no-brainer."
