Walsall Football Club have announced that vice-captain Paul Downing has put pen-to-paper on a new contract that will keep him at Banks's Stadium for the next twelve months.
23-year-old Taunton-born Downing came through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion and went on to sign pro terms in 2009, he never made a first team appearance for the Baggies but did gain first-team experience during loan spells with, Hereford United, Rotherham United, Shrewsbury Town and Barnet.
Downing joined Walsall in 2012, and originally signed a one-year contract with the club following a successful trial spell a few weeks earlier.
Following several impressive performances he went on to sign an 18-month extension in February 2013.
