Earlier today Walsall Football Club's youth side travelled North to take on Fleetwood Town Under 18s, in the latest Football League Youth Alliance (North West) fixture of the season.

The fifth placed Saddlers arrived at the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers, whilst Fleetwood defeated Morecambe by one-goal-to-nil in a rearranged mid-week fixture, the result was Town's fifth win of the season, having struggled near the foot of the table for much of the campaign.

The match, which took place at Fuse Football in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, was a tight affair, with both sides having good spells of attacking play, and both 'keepers being tested. The sides went into the break level, at 0-0.

Sadly for Walsall the hosts, via an as-yet unnamed player, grabbed the only goal of the game during a competitive second half which again saw both sides create many goal-scoring opportunities.

FT: FLEETWOOD TOWN 1 WALSALL 0

Next up for Walsall is a home clash with Wrexham, which will be played at the Birmingham FA headquarters on Ray Hall Lane in Great Barr, next weekend.
