Walsall Football Club are set for a financial boost as Watford have secured promotion to the Premier League following their victory over Brighton and Hove Albion, on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets secured victory thanks to former Saddler Troy Deeney's twenty-ninth minute strike, along with Matej Vydra's injury time doubler, the result puts the club four points ahead of the chasing pack, with one game remaining, although second-placed Bournemouth do have one game in-hand, third-placed Middlesbrough can no longer catch them.

It is understood that part of the transfer agreement that took 26-year-old Deeney from Walsall to Watford in 2010 included a clause that would see the Saddlers receive £150,000 if the Hornets gained promotion to the Premier League, with Deeney as part of the squad.

Birmingham-born Deeney, who was released by Aston Villa at the age of 15, is regarded as one of the best strikers outside the Premier League having notched over 20 goals, along with several assists, three seasons in a row.

After a spell in the Saddlers' youth and reserve sides Troy made his Walsall debut during the 2006/07 season and went on to make 136 appearances for the Saddlers, scoring 27 goals,

Following a summer of speculation he joined Watford in August 2010 on a two-year contract, for a fee believed to be £350,000 up-front, along with up-to £150,000 dependent on appearances (£2.5k per app), this also included a sell-on fee believed to be in the region of 15-to-30%.
