Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the club's official website ahead of Saturday afternoon's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Oldham Athletic, and has discussed the importance of keeping their momentum as we head towards the end of the season.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; "I feel that we have the momentum with us, and it's always nice to finish the season with momentum.

"It's six games unbeaten, during which time we should have had five wins, including the game at Swindon on Tuesday evening where, at two goals up and in control, the game was changed by a penalty decision.

"The players have been performing well and we want that to continue in these final two games, particularly on Saturday as it will be nice to finish on a high in front of our own supporters.

"We're building something here. We have continuity and know where our base is to build around. It's been a positive week for the club with the youth team winning the Midland Youth Cup on Monday and the reserves beating Wrexham 8-0 on Wednesday.

"We have some well-educated players here who understand what we are trying to do and that bodes well for the future.

"It's ironic that Dean Holden was lining up for us at the start of the season and now he will be in the opposition dug-out for this final home game. I have a lot of time for him and he did really well for me.

"He played an important role in the development of our young players and I totally understood his decision to go to Oldham earlier in the season. It has worked out well for him; he had a fantastic playing career and is now moving up the coaching ladder.

"We go into the game with no-one on the treatment table. We have a fully fit squad to choose from, which is a nice position to be in."
