Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the local press ahead of Bank Holiday Monday's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Peterborough United, and has discussed the Saddlers current battle against the drop, and his belief that the Reds are in a better position than eight teams below them.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Smith said; "It's not a banned word. We don't ban any words. But the feeling is that we are in a better position than eight other teams below us. I would have thought 52 points probably makes you safe.

"We've got a game in hand over a few down below us and above us but it is very tight down there.

"On the whole performance-wise I couldn't complain with the effort and endeavour of the lads again. The only thing that was missing was a bit of composure in front of goal and a little bit of luck as well. We've hit the bar and the post and it's just not bounced for us.

"Jordan worked a number of chances for himself that's for sure, we just can't buy a goal at the moment unfortunately. It's always an opportunity missed when you've had that many good chances but it wasn't to be.

"I thought from set-pieces the players showed a lot more desire to get on the end of things and create chances. I thought we looked dangerous from corners which we haven't been too often.

"You can't create that many chances and not score – goals will come. It's not just happening at the moment – the players are certainly creating the chances and you just need a little bit of luck sometimes.

"Sometimes you need the goalkeeper to kick it in off your backside and that just turns it around a little bit.

"We have to keep performing like we did on Friday and we will be ok. We were the superior team, we just didn't get the three points."
