Walsall Football Club have taken AFC Telford United goalkeeper James Montgomery on trial.

The 20-year-old Sunderland-born stopper, who was named amongst the Saddlers' starting XI for their Reserves clash with Tranmere Rovers, joined United on non-contract terms in March.

He began his career as an apprentice with Middlesbrough before joining Guisely in 2013, before veparting for the Nike Academy soon after.

James, who is the grandson of former Sunderland and Birmingham City legend Jimmy Montgomery, has also spent time on trial with Millwall and is seen as something of a goalkeeping prospect.
