Earlier today, Walsall Football Club's Reserves travelled North to take on Port Vale Reserves in the latest Final Third Development League (West) fixture of the season.

The Saddlers sat in fourth position ahead of the game, and arrived on the back of last weeks 3-0 victory over table toppers Wigan Athletic. You can see highlight's of that game HERE.

The second placed Valiants, who have two games in hand over Wigan, needed just four points from their last two Final Third Development League matches to claim the West Division title.

The clash, which was played at Port Vale's training ground, was also Vale's first chance to bounce back from a disappointing 5-1 defeat to Morecambe during last week's round of fixtures.

The match was played in very windy conditions, with both sides struggling to keep control of the ball at times.

Neither 'keeper was beaten during the opening forty-five minutes as we reached the break all-square.

The Saddlers grabbed the opening goal of the game after 54 minutes, hot-prospect Amadou Bakayoko, who is on the road to recovery after collecting a knock ahead of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final, found the back of the net thanks to a superb assist from defender, and first-team manager Dean Smith's son, Jamie.

As the clock ticked on Jonathon Kapend scored Vale's somewhat lucky leveller. Walsall 'keeper Craig MacGillivray charged out to punch the ball away from his area, only for the ball to hit the back of Kapend's head and end up in the back of the net.

RESULT: PORT VALE RESERVES 1 WALSALL RESERVES 1
GOALS: KAPEND --- BAKAYOKO
