Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom has spoken to the club's official website following Sunday afternoon's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final defeat to Bristol City, and has admitted that the Saddlers were not at their best during the game.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Sam said; “You have to be at your best against a team like that. Sadly we didn’t perform to our max, but we will take the positives out of it. It was a massive experience, something that we will look back upon for many years to come.

“My raw emotion at the moment is that I’m gutted we couldn’t send the fans home happy with a win.

“We lost it in the box with two crosses and two headers, which was disappointing.

“For me personally there are mixed emotions; I don’t know whether to be happy or sad, to be honest.

“I’m happy that I was out there on the pitch because a few months ago I would not have expected this, but then I’m sad that we haven’t been able to finish the job off and bring home the trophy.

“We will use this to motivate us now and hopefully finish the season strongly as push on for the play-offs.”
