We are sad to learn that former Walsall Football Club inside-left Jack Hughes, who played for the Saddlers from 1950 to 1953, passed away late last month at the age of 85.

Remembered for his skill and dribbling abilities, Jack scored ten goals, including one on his debut against Port Vale, in forty-four league appearances during his time at Fellows Park.

Despite being raised as a West Bromwich Albion fan Jack was fiercely proud to have played for Walsall FC, and actually turned down an trial invitation with the Albion's reserves side to sign for the Saddlers, after his elder brother had spoken to the club about his availability.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years Janet, their two children, Jane and Jill, their four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Jack's family and friends during this difficult time.
