TAYLOR PRAISE FOR CONSISTENT TEAMMATES

Walsall Football Club left-back Andy Taylor has spoken to the press ahead of next week's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area semi-final clash with Tranmere Rovers, and has praised his teammates' recent defensive performances, which have seen the side concede just one goal in the last five league and cup games.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Andy said; “We take the credit as a team because we defend from the front and the two midfield lads put in a great shift every game defensively, helping out the back four, along with the wingers as well.

“We do defend as a team really, really well. We are a solid team and the record shows that we are difficult to break down.

“Every game we go into it wanting to be organised and difficult to beat and then if we can score and get things right at the other end, then we are pretty confident that we can hold on to what we've got.

“I think the more you can have a consistent back five – and obviously there have been a few ins and outs this season – it is advantageous because you do build up relationships and an understanding with the players you are playing with.

“And also with the fact that you’ve got a keeper that’s playing every game and solid behind you, it is a big advantage that we have been able to put out pretty much a set back five barring one or two changes.

“We pride ourselves on our organisation and team shape starting from the front so the plaudits are brilliant but we do take them as a team, not just as a back four or five."
