SMITH REACTS TO BOXING DAY DEFEAT

Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the clubs official website following Boxing Day's Sky Bet League 1 defeat at the hands of Swindon Town, and has insisted that he and the squad are determined to bounce back.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Dean said; "A mad ten minute spell has cost us. They've countered us three times and scored three goals from it.

"I was pleased with us in the first half; Swindon started well but we came back into it and could have been in front at the break.

"The conditions in the second half were farcical and, whilst I don't want to make excuses, the game should really have been stopped.

"Swindon are a good team but we had a big helping hand in their goals. We know that we have to be better than that.

"It's always good to have another game so soon and it will be another tough one for us on Sunday as we go to MK Dons.

"They are flying high and scoring goals for fun. We know that we have to be better than today, but we are determined to prove that the ten-minute spell at the start of the second half was just a one-off."
