Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the club's official website following Tuesday evening's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Semi-Final victory over Tranmere Rovers, and told of his pride as his team came back from 2-0 down to defeat Rovers 4-5 on penalties.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; “I was calm all game. We started really well for the opening 20 minutes or so and to be honest I was shell-shocked to go in two goals down at the break.

“I said to the lads at half-time we could either accept it or do something about it. We were outstanding in the second half and there were some tired legs out there, but we deserved the shoot-out win.

“Its fine margins; our two goals were fantastic finishes and now we find ourselves just two games from Wembley, which is fantastic for everyone connected to this club.

“It would have been so easy to go under at two goals down, but the lads showed tremendous character out there and I am delighted for them.”
