Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the press following Tuesday evening's last-minute defeat to Crawley Town, and has praised his players for their much improved performance, and has insisted that if they continue to play like that they will begin to pick up victories and start to climb the table.

Smith's side had battered their opponents for most of the game, sending more than twenty five shots towards 'keeper Jamie Ashdown's area, only for Crawley Town's Conor Henderson to break Saddlers hearts with an 89th minute free kick.

Speaking to saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; “We were outstanding. As an attacking force we created so many chances but couldn't put the ball in the net.

“The performance was good and we could have easily won by three or four goals. We controlled the game from start to finish but were undone right at the end by a free-kick that shouldn't have been given in the first place.

“There were positives to take from the game, though, and with Sam Mantom on the bench tonight and Tom Bradshaw back for Saturday’s game, things are looking good.

“It’s easy to come out and face the press after a performance like that. More of them and we’ll start to climb the table.

“It was also good to see Michael Cain slot straight into the side; he looked as though he has played at this level for some time and made a big contribution.”
