PREVIEW: OLDHAM ATHLETIC v WALSALL

This coming Saturday afternoon Walsall Football Club travel to Greater Manchester to take on Oldham Athletic, in the latest round of Sky Bet League One fixtures.

This coming Saturday afternoon Walsall Football Club travel to Greater Manchester to take on Oldham Athletic, in the latest round of Sky Bet League One fixtures.

The Saddlers arrive at the game on the back of an encouraging 1-0 away win over Rochdale in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, a victory that extends the Saddlers' undefeated run to four games in all competitions, a run that started on the back of a 4-0 league defeat to the aforementioned Rochdale in the middle of September.

 WALSALL TEAM NEWS
Walsall will be without top-scorer Tom Bradshaw who limped off during the first-half of the Saddlers' draw with Bristol City last weekend, with what has now been confirmed as a slight pull in his hamstring.

Attacking-midfielder Romaine Sawyers is also absent as he continues to represent St Kitts and Nevis in the second phase of qualification for the 2014 Caribbean Cup.

Once again, midfielder Sam Mantom (knee) remains sidelined, with the injury that has seen him miss the entire campaign so far.

 OUR OPPONENTS
Oldham Athletic arrive at this weekend's match on the back of a penalty shootout victory over Barnsley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, a victory that sees the Latics extend their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions.

The Latics have no new injury concerns going into the match and are expected to name a strong side as they aim to continue their spell of good form, and push towards the play-off places.

HEAD TO HEAD
In terms of head-to-head, of the fifty fixtures played, Walsall hold a slight lead with twenty wins to the Latics nineteen. There have also been eleven draws between the two.

Their first meeting took place on 10th April 1936, the match ending 2-1 to Oldham in front of 3,587 at Fellows Park.

In more modern times, Walsall have won all of the last three meetings, drawing the fourth. Of the last ten games, Walsall have won four, drawn three and lost three.

Their last meeting took place in January this year, with the Saddlers emerging victorious 1-0, a Sam Mantom second-half strike proving enough to secure all three points at Banks's Stadium.

 THE OFFICIALS
This weekend's referee is scheduled to be Mr. Carl Boyeson, who is based in East Yorkshire.

Referee Boyeson has officiated over nine matches in various competitions this season, where he has issued twenty-five yellow and one red card.

Mr. Danny Markham and Mr. Stephen Wade are scheduled to be referee's assistants, whilst Mr. Mark Brown will be Fourth Official.
