LATEST: SMITH REACTS TO LATICS LOSS

Walsall manager Dean Smith met with the press following Saturday evening's disappointing Sky Bet League One defeat to Oldham Athletic, and admitted that his side were second best through much of the game, and have much to work on heading to next weekend's home tie against Crewe Alexandra.
Walsall manager Dean Smith met with the press following Saturday evening's disappointing Sky Bet League One defeat to Oldham Athletic, and admitted that his side were second best through much of the game, and have much to work on heading to next weekend's home tie against Crewe Alexandra.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Dean said; “We started well and finished well, but the bit in between was not good enough. I felt that we got too stretched and gave possession away too cheaply; we allowed them to dominate the ball.

“We made a bright start and Jordan Cook looked a threat, but once we got in front we seemed to step off it.

“It was a disappointing result and performance; Oldham are a good side, you don’t go that many games unbeaten without having something about you, but we lacked that spark and know-how today.

“We didn't put enough balls into the box or behind them, so that is also something we will look at.”
