Walsall manager Dean Smith has today spoken to the press ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash with Colchester United, and has offered a brief update on midfielder Sam Mantom, who has missed the start to the season via injury.
Speaking to the
Express & Star, following a behind-closed-doors friendly victory over local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, Smith said; “It’s frustrating and he’s as frustrated as anyone. It’s one of those nagging strains that just don’t go away very quickly.
“The good thing is that it is healing, because he was feeling it every time he made a pass and now he’s only feeling it every now and then.
“It’s one of those things we've had to be patient with and, as frustrating as it gets, we have been patient.”
Meanwhile, attacking midfielder Ashley Grimes is expected to miss two weeks of action with a calf strain.
