Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith has today spoken to the local press, and has offered an update on the fitness of top scorer Tom Bradshaw, who has missed the last two Saddlers games through injury.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said: “Tom Bradshaw will be fit for Saturday and I am hoping to have all of the players training this week which is fantastic news for us.

“That includes Ben Purkiss who trained with us Friday, James Chambers, Jordan Cook and Sam Mantom so it was a case of weathering the storm over the last few weeks.

“Hopefully in the next week or so I will start having a really good squad to choose from.”

Smith has also revealed that he is likely to assess the fitness of several returning players in a reserve game against Port Vale on Wednesday.

He said: “I will have to look at them in training first and see how they are. I know the rehabilitation that Jon Whitney does with them and they won’t be far off.

“There will be players involved in the reserve game who have been injured. It’s a good chance to get some match minutes into them.”
