Walsall Football Club are today closing in on the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Anthony Forde, who will be arriving on a free transfer.

It is understood that 20-year-old Ballingarry-born Forde will complete his move later this week after accepting that his future lies away from Molineux.

Forde moved to Wolves in the summer of 2009 to become part of their academy. He made his senior debut in August 2011 as a substitute in a League Cup tie against Northampton Town, and his Premier League debut in November 2011 against Chelsea.

Anthony has made a total of 20 first-team appearances for Wolves and also had a spell on loan with Scunthorpe United, along with various Republic of Ireland youth level appearances.

Yesterday, Wolves manager Kenny Jackett told the Express & Star: “Anthony is on the brink of signing for Walsall. It’s a great chance and good opportunity, they want to take him permanently and not on loan.

He had a day there training some while ago. We have brought people in, (Michael) Jacobs, (James) Henry and (Rajiv) van La Parra now and at times we have Eusebio who has got in ahead of him.”
