SMITH FURTHER REFLECTS ON IRONS DEFEAT

Walsall manager Dean Smith has this evening spoken to the club's official website to reflect on Saturday afternoon's disappointing 2-1 away defeat to previously winless Scunthorpe United.

Speaking to saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; "“It was very disappointing. It’s as bad as we have played up until we got our goal with 20 minutes to go. There was no fluency to our play and we didn’t pass the ball well enough.

“The important thing was for us to stay in the game, but we conceded two bad goals in quick succession, which was disappointing and frustrating for us.

“We showed some spirit in the last 20 minutes after we got a goal back and started passing the ball a bit more. Kieron should have had a penalty, but the referee didn’t give it.

“It’s nice to have a full week ahead of us now on the training ground. We’ll have a good chat on Monday and work hard in preparation for our next game.

“We’ve got to make sure that we bounce back in the right way; I’m not going to blame the injury list because we’ve got the players here who are good enough to do better than we did today.”
