Ahead of tomorrow afternoon's Sky Bet League One clash with Bradford City, Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith has offered a brief update on the club's injury situation.

The Saddlers are currently without summer signing, Jordan Cook, who has a slight fracture to an ankle, alongside last season's Player of the Season, Sam Mantom, who has been suffering with knee issues, full-back Ben Purkiss has missed most of pre-season with an ankle injury, whilst Centre of Excellence product Matt Preston has been suffering from a thigh strain.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; "Jordan is back running again. That's good news for us; he's pushed on really quickly and, to be honest, Jon Whitney has had to pull him back a little bit. But the lad has a great mentality and we're hopeful that he will be back soon.

"Sam had an injection on Tuesday and the hope is that he will be back in full training during the course of next week, whilst Ben was able to return to training on Thursday, but obviously this weekend is too soon for him to be considered.

"Matt meanwhile is a couple of weeks away with a thigh problem that has blighted him for a few weeks now."
