Sky Sports is calling on all Football League fans to show their true colours for their club's opening home match of the new season.

As the new Sky Bet Football League season kicks-off, fans across the country are being set the challenge of creating a ‘Wall of Colour’ at their side’s opening home league match, including the first game of the 2014/15 season when Blackburn and Cardiff live on Sky Sports on Friday 8th August.

Sky Sports want fans to get involved by donning their club’s famous colours, as well as finding the most innovative ways to show off their love for their team on social media using #WallofColour.

Sky Sports News will send their cameras along to see some of the most creative ideas and we'll feature some of the best on skysports.com and on various social media platforms.

All 72 Football League clubs will be looking to kick off the new season in style, with the first home result often proving a useful pointer to a team’s prospects for the season ahead. Last season, none of the 10 clubs that won promotion from the Sky Bet Championship, League 1 or League 2 lost their first home league match. Additionally, none of the nine clubs that were ultimately relegated won their opening home game.

Sky Sports want to see every fan get involved and play their part in making their ground a sea of club colour. It will unfold in front of the Sky Sports cameras for our three live games across the weekend, including; Sheffield United v Bristol City and Ipswich Town v Fulham on Saturday August 9 and Wolverhampton Wanderers v Norwich City on Sunday 10th August.

Walsall manager Dean Smith is looking to Saddlers' fans to play their part by making Banks's Stadium a sea of red and creating a memorable atmosphere to inspire the team, he said; "It would be fantastic to see as many of our supporters as possible turn up to the first home League game of the season here on August 16th wearing red. We've done similar things in the past and it really gives a lift to the players.

"Please support this Wall of Colour initiative!"

Shaun Harvey, the Chief Executive of The Football League, said: “The beginning of the new season is always a special time, with supporters full of hope and expectation that this season is going to be their year.

“It’s great to see Dean Smith calling on fans to create a Wall of Colour at Banks's Stadium and I hope that Walsall supporters rise to the challenge.  Every side will want to make a strong start to the new season and the three points on offer could go on to make all the difference when the trophies are being handed out next Spring."
