Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith has today spoken about veteran trialist Danny Webber, who remains with the squad after three weeks of pre-season training.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said: “I spoke with him at the start of the week, told him what I expected and he asked for the chance to prove it.

“He will be here to the end of the week and will feature in the squad against Mansfield."

33-year-old Manchester-born Webber joined the club on trial for the first week of pre-season training and made his first appearance in the 'behind closed doors' match against Wigan Athletic, and followed it up with appearances against Alfreton Town, Leamington and last night, Leicester City.

Smith also spoke about the possibility of adding more players to the squad, and revealed he is close to making a signing, he said; “On other signings we are close, I am hopeful of having an answer on one in the morning. It would be a permanent deal. Hopefully, we can go on from there.”
