Walsall Football Club record appearance holder Jimmy Walker is to hold a 'Sportsmans' Dinner' event in aid of 116-year-old local side Pelsall Villa, who are facing closure due to financial difficulties.
After hearing of the clubs' plight via Twitter Jimmy has offered to hold a sportsman's evening to raise money - and bosses have said that the event, which will be held at Pelsall Social Club on Thursday 31st July, could save the club.
Last month Pelsall Villa player-manager Andrew Bentley told the Express & Star: "He asked if there was anything he could so it looks like he will do this evening for us.
"Usually it can cost up to a couple of thousand pounds to get a speaker in and organise it, so this would save us money and bring a lot in, which would sort us out for a while.
"Some people have said they could come and help so it's starting to look better now. It's all hands on deck because we have so much to do and not enough people."
If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to volunteer you can contact Mark Bentley, player-manager Andrew's father, via Twitter, via email: [email protected] or by calling 07595 457353.
