Following this afternoon's 1-0 defeat to Colchester United, Walsall manager Dean Smith offered his thoughts on the season as a whole...

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; "We know that we haven't scored enough goals this season and I will be looking to put that right during the summer. I am already looking forward to getting stuck into building for next season.

"We need to be able to turn our domination into goals; we haven't done that enough this season. That said, there have been plenty of positives and some of the football that we have played has been outstanding.

"I have taken a lot of pride in the way that we have tried to play football the right way throughout. We are now a club where the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool want to send their young players on loan.

"I've got a good spine to the squad and some promising young players coming through.

"Yes, we're all disappointed at the way in which the season has ended because we feel that we are a top six side and have been challenging for that for the majority of the campaign, but we will focus on the positives and move forward.

"It's about continuing to build and progressing together."
