SMITH CONSIDERING BUTLER APPEAL

Walsall manager Dean Smith has until the end of today to put in an appeal against club captain Andy Butler's red card which he picked up during the Saddlers' 3-0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons at the weekend.
Walsall manager Dean Smith has until the end of today to put in an appeal against club captain Andy Butler's red card which he picked up during the Saddlers' 3-0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons at the weekend.

Following the game Smith told the press, "It was a harsh sending off. Yes, it was a penalty, but their lad was going away from goal and I don't feel that it warranted a red card."

Walsall have had a previous Butler red card rescinded, following his dismissal at Leyton Orient earlier in the season.

There is also a risk of the FA's Disciplinary Panel ruling against the club and increasing the ban from one to three games if the appeal is ruled frivolous.
