Northampton's game against Rochdale was postponed yesterday through water-logging and weather forecasters are predicting further rain in the coming days.
It is also believed that the pitch at Sixfields has suffered considerable damage and will require a dry spell to begin the process of repair.
A Northampton spokesman said; "It depends on the weather between now and the weekend but we’re hopeful of a dry day or two, and if that happens then there’s every reason to be optimistic."
It is likely a pitch inspection will be held on the morning of the game to give the pitch the best chance of making a recovery.
