O'KELLY JOINS BRISTOL CITY

BescotBanter.net believes Walsall Football Club assistant manager Richard O'Kelly has now agreed to leave the club and take up the same role at npower Championship side Bristol City.
Walsall FC assistant manager Richard O'Kelly has left the club and take up the role of first-team coach at npower Championship side Bristol City.

56-year-old West Bromwich born O'Kelly links up with City manager Sean O'Driscoll for a third time, having previously worked with him at both AFC Bournemouth and Doncaster Rovers.

We reported Bristol's interest early last week and an approach was made on Monday morning.

Following discussions over compensation, a deal has now been agreed and Richard is now in place before Bristol's home tie with Ipswich Town on Saturday.

This is the second time O'Kelly has left the club, following his arrival in November 2011, Richard first left to take up the managers job at Hereford United in March 2012, during their ultimately unsuccessful battle against relegation to the Blue Square Bet Premier League.

O'Kelly then returned to the club in June 2012 to take up the assistant manager role.

Walsall will now look to appoint a new assistant and strengthen the squad with the compensation they've received.

Head of Youth Neil Woods will assist Dean Smith while a successor is sought.
