Huddersfield Town 1 Walsall 1 - Match Report

Following Saturday's draw with undefeated Huddersfield Town, Bescot Banter columnist Lee Hale shares his Match Report;

Long trip up to the Galpharm stadium this afternoon, a game which not many were expecting a result from.

The first half, the Saddlers were not really in the game, Huddersfield pushed and pushed but Walsall stayed strong at the back.

David Grof certainly wanted to grab his chance with both hands with some absolutely top draw saves, basically keeping us in the game.

Walsall just could not seem to get a foot on the ball and it was a surprise to both sets of fans when the teams went in level at the break, defying almost constant pressure on the Walsall goal.

HALF TIME: Huddersfield Town 0 Walsall 0

Second half began, and Huddersfield's apparent inability to break Walsall down, saw the home fans start to get frustrated, and Huddersfield heads drop a little as passes began to go astray.

In the 67th minute, the breakthrough came as a Huddersfield cross, was stabbed across Grof's goal and stabbed in by Lee Novak to send the native fans into raptures.

Their celebrations only lasted 11 minutes, as youngster Jamie Paterson ran a full 30 yards, held off a Huddersfield defender well, and curled a beautiful effort round the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Huddersfield had an effort, just wide although half the stadium thought it was in. There was a loud shout for a Huddersfield penalty as Jack Hunt went down under pressure from Will Grigg, but Hunt had his name taken by the ref for diving.

Overall a very back-to-the-wall game for the most part but a battling performance saw The Saddlers come away with an unexpected but hugely welcome point.

RESULT: Huddersfield Town 1 (Novak 67') Walsall 1 (Paterson 78')
