IN THE NEWS | Walsall Senior Cup Final Postponed

The Final of this season's Walsall Senior Cup, which was due to be contested by Lichfield City and Rushall Olympic, has been postponed due to City's decision to withdraw from the competition following a recent change of venue.

The match, which was due to take place on Monday evening, was originally scheduled to be played at Walsall's Banks's Stadium but was switched to Chasetown's Scholars Ground as the Saddlers, who could be set to enter the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Offs later this month, requested a change of venue with a view to protecting their pitch.

WALSALL ARE THE CURRENT WALSALL SENIOR CUP CHAMPIONS, HAVING DEFEATED CHASETOWN BY FOUR-GOALS-TO-THREE (AFTER EXTRA TIME) IN THE FINAL OF LAST SEASON'S COMPETITION.

It is understood that Lichfield City are unhappy at the change of venue and, despite the Staffordshire Football Association asking them to reconsider, will not be taking part in the Final.

The Staffordshire FA will be holding a meeting next week and hope to come up with a suitable solution to their unusual issue.
