Youth Alliance Preview: v Tranmere Rovers (A)

10:00 am Friday, 16 August 2019
Walsall Under-18s are back in action this weekend as they travel to the Wirral where they will take on Tranmere Rovers in their opening EFL Youth Alliance - North West outing of the season.
The young Saddlers, who are now managed by former Sheffield Wednesday defender Miguel Llera, recently returned from an League Football Education (LFE) pre-season trip to the Netherlands, where they and seven other teams took part in a variety of training sessions and friendly matches ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Walsall faced the likes of Rot Weiss Essen U19s (L 0-3), Vitesse U17s (L 0-2), FC Volendam (W 1-0), Sparta Rotterdam U19s (D 2-2), and Lincoln City (W 2-1) before returning to WS1 earlier this week.

The Saddlers suffered a dismal 2018/29 and will be keen to get off on the right foot this wekend as they make their return to competitive action.

This weekend's opponents Tranmere, who are managed by Andy Parkinson, opened their Alliance campaign in early August as they faced Accrington Stanley at the International Soccer Academy, otherwise known as 'The Campus'.

Sadly for the young Rovers, they opened their season with a defeat as Stanley secures the points, winning by three-goals-to-one - Jake Burton netting for the home side.

Rovers enjoyed a free weekend last week as troubled team Bury continue to suffer the wrath of the EFL as their much-needed takeover continues to stall.

Saturday's match is due to take place at the Campus with kick-off currently scheduled for 11.00am and we'll bring you the result across our social media channels.
