Dean Keates Praises 'Eager to Impress' Josh Gordon

Walsall manager Dean Keates has spoken to the local press and praised summer signing Josh Gordon, with the former Leicester City prospect having plenty of positives to build upon - even in the early stages of his Saddlers career.
Gordon, who joined the Saddlers from the Foxes on Transfer Deadline Day, has already opened his goalscoring account for the club, and manager Keates believes he has so much more to give, but may need to curb his enthusiasm.

The 23-year old striker, who can also play on the wing, bagged a goal in the Saddlers' Carabao Cup against clash with Macclesfield Town, and Checkatrade Trophy meeting with Burton Albion, and is keen to prove his worth every time he takes to the field.

But Keates, who briefly played alongside the striker when they were both with Rhyl, feels that he would benefit from taking things a little slower, and using his energy in more targeted ways.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Dean said; "Josh has had to be patient but he’s done really well – he has shown what he is about. I keep telling him to get in the middle of the goals and he has scored two strikers goals, both of them were four yards out. He has a lot of energy.

"But sometimes you have to curb the enthusiasm even though he wants to work. It’s about working clever. I don’t want him burning all his energy by just running around. I spoke to him after the Macclesfield game about curbing that enthusiasm a little bit.

"It’s not a bad thing when you are telling someone to stop doing so much, he just has to be a bit smarter. But he’s eager to impress."
