Dean Keates 'Pleased to a Point' After Reaching Six-Months at the Helm

Walsall boss Dean Keates has spoken to the local press ahead of this weekend's League One clash with Oxford United, and insisted that he is satisfied with the progress the club has made over the last six-months, but admitted that there is plenty of work still to do.
The manager, who saw his side suffer their first league defeat of the season against Doncaster Rovers last weekend, replaced Jon Whitney on 16th March and has undertaken almost a complete overhaul of the first-team squad and backroom team.

The Walsall-born former midfielder admitted that last weekend's 4-1 defeat to Donny dented his squad's pride, but believes that - following a summer of change - the players are still getting to know each other.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Dean said; "To this point I am pleased – we achieved what we wanted last season and this season we have done OK. I am very disappointed with Saturday. Our pride was hurt.

"But there has been a lot of change. We have integrated the new players into the squad and they have had an impact. There are still a lot of players from last season so there has been a lot of juggling.

"We added one or two early. But then a few fans panicked because we hadn’t added too much. But with Ama moving on, there was money freed up. We had to wait and had to be patient, but there was always a list of targets there.

"It’s been different and a challenge. We are happy with where we are at the moment, but we do need a reaction at the weekend."
