The Saddlers and Oxford have met on just thirty-one previous occasions, and it's the Yellows who hold a comfortable overall lead having won sixteen matches compared to Walsall's seven.

There have also been eight draws during the fixture's history, a history which began at Fellows Park on Wednesday, 2nd September 1964, as the two sides met in the First Round of the League Cup. That match ended all-square with both sides grabbing a goal. However Walsall went on to lose the replay, which was played five days later, as Oxford ran out comfortable winners, scoring six goals to the Saddlers' one.

Walsall have struggled in recent years having won just three of the last twelve meetings between the two sides, drawing three and losing six, a run that stretches back to 1983.
