David Kelly Set For Sporting Dinner in Aid of Wyrley Juniors

Walsall legend David 'Ned' Kelly will be taking part in a 'Sporting Dinner' to raise funds for the Wyrley Juniors Football Club.
Walsall legend David 'Ned' Kelly will be taking part in a 'Sporting Dinner' on Friday, 28th April to raise funds for the Wyrley Juniors Football Club.

The event, which will take place at Wyrley Juniors FC on Long Lane in Newtown (WS6 6AT) will see Kelly share stories from his eventful playing and coaching career which saw him play for Walsall as well as West Ham United, Leicester City, Newcastle United and many more.

51-year-old, Birmingham born Kelly joined Walsall following a successful trial in 1981, and turned professional under Alan Buckley two years later. He went on to make 190 league and cup appearances scoring more than eighty goals, including a hat-trick in the crucial 1987/88 final play-off game against Bristol City which clinched promotion. After five years at Fellows Park Kelly was snapped up by West Ham United for a club-record fee of around £600,000.

The former Republic of Ireland International went on to make over 500 more professional appearances scoring nearly 200 goal in the process and after calling time on an illustrious career that also saw him turn out for the likes of Leicester City, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tranmere Rovers, Sheffield United and Motherwell, amongst others, Ned later became a coach and Assistant Manager, serving alongside his good friend Billy Davies.

As well as playing for the Saddlers, David also turned out for West Ham United, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sunderland, Tranmere Rovers, Sheffield United, Motherwell, Mansfield Town and Derry City.

Tickets for the event, which is due to start at 7:00pm, are on sale now at a cost of just £20, which includes a buffet dinner. For further information, or to secure your ticket, call Lee on 07966 887980.
