Walsall manager Jon Whitney has spoken to the local press and offered an update on the status of young midfielder Maz Kouhyar, who suffered an injury while on international duty with Afghanistan.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Jon said; "He had an operation on his knee on Friday. We are looking at six to eight weeks before he is back playing but that is good news because it could have been an injury that kept him out for three months.

"There is not too much damage, which is great news for Maz’s career in the future. He is good spirits. We see it as a positive, we know he had got a few imbalances he needs to do but he will get that done with the medical team over the next few weeks.

"You have got to take injuries as a positive and work on other things which he will do. He will come back in two months a stronger player."
