Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts and central defender Theo Vassell are currently on-loan with Vanarama National League side Chester, and were both named in the matchday squad as the Blues took on Sutton United on Saturday afternoon.

Liam Roberts was named on the bench, with Jon Worsnop starting between the sticks, but Theo Vassell, who joined the Saddlers from Oldham Athletic, started the game in the centre of defence as he continues to gain some first-team football.

Jon McCarthy’s men enjoyed a superb start to the game as they took the lead after just three minutes of play. Blaine Hudson heading home from a pin-point Elliott Durrell free kick.

The Blues continued their solid start with just seven minutes on the clock as the Port Vale loanee Ryan Lloyd tapped home the rebound following Kane Richards' saved effort. This was the score heading into the break.

During the second half the game had an extended delay following a serious injury to Walsall defender Theo Vassell, who was stretchered off the pitch following a poor challenge. As reported earlier today, Theo has since taken to Twitter and confirmed that he is 'recovering well'.

The game got back underway after around ten minutes and Chester soon went on to treble their lead as Tom Shaw slotted home from the penalty spot; The Blues had been awarded a penalty following a foul on Kane Richards.

Richards was involved in the action soon after as he showed plenty of composure to smash the ball home in the early stages of injury time as Evan Horwood's free-kick had been deflected into his path. A superb result for Chester as they continue their Vanarama National League campaign
