Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the local press ahead of Saturday afternoon's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Bradford City, and has offered a brief update on the status of midfielder Sam Mantom.

23-year-old, Stourbridge born Mantom, who suffered an ankle injury during the Saddlers' Sky Bet League 1 defeat to Chesterfield in mid October, played for seventy minutes of the Saddlers' midweek Birmingham Senior Cup defeat to Stratford Town.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Smith said; “It is great to have a player of Sam’s calibre, ready to come back. We will have a look and see how he goes, he will do a bit after the game tomorrow and see how he is.

“He has no problem with his ankle now, he’s fully fit from that. The work Jon Whitney does with the rehabilitation means players do not need as many games for getting their fitness back. If not Tuesday, he will certainly be ready for Chesterfield in the FA Cup.”
