Earlier this evening Walsall Football Club travelled the short distance to the Bush Ground to take on Pelsall Villa in the Second Round of this season's Walsall Senior Cup competition.

It was the home side that had the first chance of the game, Saddlers second-choice 'keeper Craig MacGillivray alert to the danger, saving well to prevent the Villains from taking the lead.

Walsall's first chance of the game came through Reece Flanagan, the flame-haired midfielder curling an effort wide from distance.

As half time approached young Walsall defender Kyle Rowley reacted quickly to prevent Pelsall from taking the lead.

Walsall went on the counter, and young midfielder Luke Delaney forcing a save from the home goalkeeper, Brendan Pooni sending in a superb pass to create the opportunity.

Kieron Morris also forced a save from the 'keeper, a blistering drive that was tipped onto the bar.

Walsall took the lead early in the second half, Centre of Excellence midfielder Luke Delaney sending a right-footed strike past an unlucky goalkeeper.

Soon after winger Kieron Morris tested the 'keeper once again, his shot saved in a less than convincing fashion.

The home 'keeper also did well to prevent Levi Rowley from grabbing a goal, the young striker a target of a searching ball from midfield as the Saddlers made good use of the slope at an increasingly wet Bush Ground.

Kieron Morris continued to cause the Villains' defence a problem, his shot saved and then scrambled away as the Saddlers looked to extend their lead.

Walsall made their fist changes of the game as Mazir Kouhyar and Nathan Owen replaced Dean Smith's son Jamie, and Saddlers goalscorer Luke Delaney.

Pelsall Villa also had chances to score, summer signing Craig MacGillivray saving well from a counter attack. The Villains also hit the crossbar in-search of an equaliser.

Brendan Pooni was then replaced by Jordon Sangha with the Saddlers keen to add fresh legs to their attack.

Walsall then doubled their lead, substitute Kouhyar slotting home as Villa struggled to deal with a strong Saddlers attack.

Soon after young striker Levi Rowley fired home from distance as the Saddlers' superior levels of fitness began to tell.

Late into the second half Pelsall went wide as they searched for a goal, the homeside doing well to create an opening as their legs continued to tire.

Second half substitute Jordon Sangha had a shot deflected wide as Walsall continued to control the game.

Kieron Morris sent in an inviting cross which Recce Flanagan directed just wide of goal, the Saddlers good value for their lead.
