FOOTBALL LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS TO SWITCH CHANNELS

According to media reports a new Football League highlights broadcasting deal has been struck between the Football League, and Channel 5, following a bidding process between several major broadcasters.

The deal, which is believed to be three-years in length, will bring an end to the BBC's 'The Football League Show', which was first broadcast at the start of the 2009/10 Football League season, and see highlights move to Channel 5 from the beginning of the 2015/16 League campaign.

Reports in the Daily Express also suggest that Channel 5 plan to broadcast the - as yet unnamed 90 minute show - at 9pm on Saturday evenings, moving the Football League highlights ahead of the BBC's flagship Premier League highlights show, 'Match of the Day'.

It is understood Channel 5 matched other broadcasters bids and the decision to accept was secretly reached by members of the Football League board at their meeting last week.

As with the BBC's 'Football League Show', the programme will cover all three divisions, and there will also be a repeat showing on Sunday mornings.

Although the deal has yet to be signed, only the formalities remain and the League are expected to make a full announcement shortly.
