SMITH SEEKS TO QUASH MANTOM RUMOURS

Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the press ahead of tomorrow's Sky Bet League One clash with league-leaders Bristol City, and has sought to quash several Internet rumours regarding Sam Mantom, and there being more to his absence than his long-standing knee injury.

Over the past few months there has been some discussion as to whether Sam is unsettled at Banks's Stadium following suggestions of interest from several other sides, including Huddersfield Town.

Others went as far as to suggest Sam was suffering with depression, however Smith has today attempted to put those rumours to bed.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Smith said: “Despite all the conspiracy theories Sam’s ok. He’s getting back on track.

“It’s just been an injury that has taken a lot longer than we all thought and it’s baffled a few specialists as well, just the nature of the injury and how long it’s taken.

“Sam told me there’s been a few people been texting him over these rumours but it’s just an injury that occurred and has taken longer to come back than expected.”
