It is believed Boro recently missed out on Jacques Maghoma who opted for Sheffield Wednesday, which has prompted them to look at Paterson and are expected to submit a sizeable bid within the next 24 hours.
Nottingham Forest are already thought to have had a bid accepted for the talented winger but now face late competition form the North-East outfit, along with
Huddersfield who have already had an initial bid rejected.
