Déjà Vu All Over Again

As we reach the business end of the 2011/2012 nPower League One campaign, Walsall Football Club once again find themselves in a relegation battle, with forty-four games gone and just two to go The Saddlers are just three points clear from the relegation zone, thankfully with a much better goal difference than those around them.

Just twelve months ago the club were in exactly the same position, battling relegation with two tough ties remaining, then, Charlton Athletic and Southampton awaited the stuttering Saddlers, who had picked up just eleven points from the previous ten games. This time around, play-off certainties Huddersfield Town and a final day trip to MK Dons awaits, and having only picked up ten points from ten games we may, once again, be reliant on other teams results rather than our own.

With Rochdale already gone there are three relegation places remaining and five teams aiming to avoid them, along with The Saddlers; Leyton Orient, Wycombe Wanderers, Chesterfield and recent conquerors Exeter City are all vying for a place above the dotted line. Leyton Orient have failed to pick up a single point in six of the last seven games, both Wycombe Wanderers and Chesterfield have notched fourteen points from the last ten games, Exeter City have gained just seven points from their last ten games and, if not for Saturday's result would've joined Rochdale in relegation this weekend.

Obviously with a three point advantage and a far superior goal difference it is still very much in our hands, also given our rivals recent form we may need just a single point from the final two games, lets hope the feeling of Déjà Vu remains and we once again secure our status in League One for another season.
